As the new school year is creeping up on us, I find myself having all sorts of thoughts running through my head that seem to be overpowering everything else. The loudest ones seem to radiate around you guys ~ my kids. I am still stumbling with the fact that my two oldest girls are both going to be in high school now. One of you will be driving, the other vying for new friends and attention (and will have NO problem getting both).
Not to mention that Chewy is now in 8th grade (which makes him the "big dog" in the middle school) and Bug will be in the 6th grade (which also puts her at the top of the totem pole at her school).
Can we say attitude boys and girls? I knew we could.
So... in light of all this "power" that may find it's way into our house, I thought I would share a little bit of the wisdom that I have gathered throughout my years, in hopes that it may help you on your own paths. Some of these have been mentioned in other blogs I faithfully read, some just rantings from my own crazy mind... but all are important for you to know.
Kids... Please pay attention...
1. You. Are. Fantastic. Just the way you are. Do NOT let anyone tell you different or try to change you. If they try, they are NOT worth your time or effort. Enjoy your uniqueness and individuality. Embrace it. There is NO ONE in this world like you!
2. Real friends do not try to get you to do things you don't really want to do. They will support your decision to say yes or no, respect your viewpoints, and not criticize you for it. This rule goes both ways. Accept your friends for who and what they are, and love them for it. This grows a great friendship. If there is no mutual respect and trust there... there is no real friendship. Move along.
3. "If you loved me, you would do it..." is the preface of a horrible situation, and the best reason to run the other way! It's also one of the most notorious bullsh*t lines out there. DON'T FALL FOR IT! No young man/woman who really loves you would ever say that. EVER! If they love you, they will wait for you, and respect your decision to wait.
4. WAIT. Don't rush your adulthood. Trust me... it will be here faster than you can imagine. Take your time, and enjoy being young.
5. Girls ~Make up is meant to be worn in a way that you cannot tell you are really wearing any. Less. Is. More. Looking like a raccoon or a painted up circus clown will not win friends or gain respect. Enjoy your youthful looks and natural beauty! Before you know it, you will have to wear make up to try to make yourself look younger... (and you will hate it).
6. Rumors are poison. They are hurtful, mean, biased, and 98% untrue. Do not let yourself fall into the rumor mill. One little rumor spreads like wild fire, and before you know it, someones reputation is destroyed... all because some catty b*tch/ angry d*ck decided to make up some story about her/him out of boredom/jealousy/spite. Before you say something about anyone... stop, think, and take a good hard look at yourself first. You will NEVER have the right to judge someone and talk about other peoples' lives. Mind your own. And... should you happen to be the victim of bullying/rumors... just remember #1 and #2. Hold your head up high and know who you are.
7. High school only lasts so long. Life DOES get better... And better. I promise.
8. Girls ~ Your girls ~ Even though you have them, you don't have to show them. The boys all know they are there. Trust me. Leave them something for the imagination. They WILL respect you more for it... and you will find alot more respect for yourself. The older you get, you will realize that there is real power in these things. Make sure you are mature enough to understand that power, and use it wisely. Until then... cover em up.
9. Protect yourself. Let me refer again to #4. Adamantly. REALLY think about it. However... If you do decide that you have found "Mr/Ms Right", and that you feel you are mature enough/ready to take that "next step" in the relationship... please please PLEASE ... for the love of God... use protection. Birth control/condoms should not a scary conversation, and if they are then guess what... YOU. ARE. NOT. READY. Five minutes of pleasure is not worth giving up your whole future plans to for an unplanned pregnancy, nor is it worth living the rest of your life with an STD or HIV/AIDS. Also... birth control pills/patches do NOT protect you from STD's . They must be paired with a condom in order for you to be fully protected. Be prepared, think things through, and don't fall for the excuse of "I can't feel anything with a condom on." It's bullsh*t. If he respects and "loves you", and himself... he'll wear it. Period.
10. Dad and I are not quite as naive as you would like to believe. If you have thought it... we have done it (10 fold). Don't doubt that we understand your plight, your frustrations, your excitement, and your secrets (some that you think we don't know). WE'VE BEEN THERE. Instead of trying to bullsh*t us... just talk to us. We're pretty open minded people. We will not stop disciplining when needed, we will shoot it to you straight, and will support you in any and every way we can. Most importantly... we will love you forever. No matter what. We're always here.
Love~ Your mom
Blessed Be.
